Ideological Criticism

Read through the artifact and using the ideas of Ideological Criticism articulate the ideology of the 1619 Project. It is clearly about race in America and American History but that isn’t really an ideology.

In our current historical moment the encoding of ideology into rhetoric is central to understanding a lot of our current discourse. When we look at police brutality, trans rights, free speech and 2nd amendment discussions all of those are about ideology even though the people making those arguments aren’t codifying their ideologies. it is the role of a rhetorical critic then to unpack what is being said and tease out the relationships and assumptions suggested, implied or outright claimed by the author into a visible ideology. Sometimes these will help the cause really crystalize around a clearer set of ideas or expose gaps in an ideology. Both of those are acceptable for a critic.
